What to expect

Once you've signed up, we'll reach out with details for our next session. Sessions are held weekly and run for a few hours - usually in the evening. You don't need any special equipment beyond a PC and a copy of whichever game we're playing that week. If you don't own the game yet, let us know and we can point you toward where to grab it before the session starts.

Every session starts with everyone joining a Discord voice call, so you'll need a Discord account if you don't already have one - it's free and takes about two minutes to set up. From there, we load up the game together, get settled, and just play. New members are always paired up with someone who knows the ropes, so you'll never feel thrown in the deep end.

Checkpoint is built around the idea that gaming is better with good people. We keep things relaxed, welcoming, and low-pressure. You're not expected to be great at the game - you're just expected to show up, have fun, and be respectful to the people around you. We have zero tolerance for toxicity, elitism, or behaviour that makes others feel unwelcome. That goes for in-session chat, Discord messages, and everything in between.

We're a beginner-friendly club, which means experienced players are asked to be patient with newcomers. If someone's playing a game for the first time, that's exciting - not something to rush through. We all started somewhere, and the best sessions are the ones where everyone leaves feeling like they had a good time, regardless of skill level.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to own all the games? No - we focus on one game per session and let you know in advance which one it is, giving you time to pick it up beforehand. We try to pick games that are affordable or frequently on sale.

Can I join mid-way through a story game? Absolutely. Most of our story games are played in parallel, meaning each person runs their own save file. You can start fresh at any point without spoiling anything for anyone else - in fact, comparing progress is half the fun.

What if I can't make a session? No worries - there's no attendance commitment required. Life happens, and we get it. Just let us know if you can't make it and we'll see you the following week. We also post session recaps in Discord so you never feel too out of the loop.

Is there a cost to join? Joining Checkpoint is completely free. The only cost involved is owning a copy of the game we're playing, which we always announce well in advance. There are no membership fees, subscriptions, or hidden charges.
